For the Philippine-Japanese Friendship Month, the Filmfest will screen movies at Shang Cineplex Cinema 2 from July 3 to 13, Abreeza Mall in Davao City from July 25 to 27, FDCP Cinematheque also in Davao City from July 29 to August 3, and Ayala Center in Cebu City from August 6 to 10.
This year's slate will revolve around the theme of family and surviving natural disasters -- two things that Japan has in common with the Philippines.
A total of 16 Japanese films will be screened with English subtitles.
The festival will open on Thursday at 7 p.m. with "Homeland" ("Ieji"), a story about a broken family in the throes of the Fukushima nuclear disaster in 2011.
