Stories of Being Me


STORIES OF BEING ME: As our way of commemorating this year's International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, we have partnered with Being LGBT in Asia, UNDP Philippines, B-Change and USAID Philippines and organized a screening of several short films that deal with the lives, issues and challenges of LGBT people across Asia.

This will be in UP Film Center on 16 May (Friday) @ 5:30PM. It will be free and open to the public.

Blast from the Past: Sta Cruz Church, 1916.

Ongpin St.

The entrance to China Town in Binondo. Ongpin St. is known from its stores that sells low-carat golds, Chinese groceries, lucky charms, panciterias that sells Chinese delicacies, noodle houses and alternative medicines, but other than that, do you know that Ongpin St. was named after Don Roman Ongpin, a Chinese businessman who supported the Katipuneros against Spain.

Included in this are other street scenes in Binondo and some petshops in Aranque Market on Recto, Manila.







 Foo Dogs were believed to have powerful mythic protective benefits. used in other artistic contexts, Pairs of guardian lion statues are still common decorative and symbolic elements at the entrances to restaurants. usually seen in pairs, the pair would consist of a male resting his paw upon an embroidered ball.

Ramon Lee was established since 1929 and is famous for its one order meal which includes the Ramon Lee's fried chicken, sweet and sour pork and fried rice with hot soup.

Carriedo... hmmm...my bespren says that Carriedo was named after the philanthropist Don Francisco Carriedo y Perredo. Now, according to the story, Don Carriedo donated a lot of his money so that Manila will have a clean water system. Now how's that for a nice guy? 

Also in these photos is the statue of Arsenio Lacson, the first Mayor of Manila, the Old Monte De Pieda location (Now occupied by the Bank of the Philippine Island) , Santa Crush Church and some of those old gravestones, Jones Bridge and a replica of the Carriedo fountain (the original is said to be in the office of the MWSS.)

Pet City Expo

Pet City Hobby Specialist just had an event last May 1 to 4 at Bonifacio Global City. This also became possible due to the help of  Bonifacio Global City , Taguig City government , The Department of Environment and Natural Resources ( DENR), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources ( BFAR), CARA Welfare , People for the  Ethical Treatment of Animal ( PETA ), Hikari, Air Mac, AZOO, Mr. Aqua, OTTO, GEX, UP, Marfield , PrettyMan among others.

Pet City Expo was a small event, but got a lot of pet display for every pet aficionados, hobbyists and to those who just love having one. There were scheduled talk about aquarium set-ups,  guppy keeping , and a lecture about keeping hamsters.








No fish! Planted tanks is the new craze in aquarium keeping. It emphasize more on aquaplaning than keeping fishes in the aquarium tank. Check 'em out!







Betta (Fighting fish) and Guppy display. There are about 1,000 Fighting Fish  entered by Asian Betta Alliance members for competition.
